Leadership Formation Series

All JCU students are invited to participate in this structured-yet-informal series. As you move through the four tiers of the program, you’ll boost self-awareness, discover your strengths, and contemplate ethical challenges.

Campus Leadership Positions

Blue Streaks lead in many ways on campus. Here are a few special opportunities with a high level of visibility on campus.

Each on-campus residence hall is served by a staff of resident assistants (RAs). These undergraduate student leaders work to create a strong sense of community among the residents on their floors and maintain a safe living and learning environment. Applications to be an RA are collected each spring.

Students in any class level may get involved in student government at John Carroll. Elections are held late in the fall semester of each year.

Each summer, Orientation Leaders help to welcome incoming new students and their guests to campus in order for them to make a successful transition to college life. Applications are collected and individuals are selected for the staff at the end of each fall semester.

Campus Ministry offers a trio of leadership opportunities:

Carroll Faith Community Leaders help foster the culture of faith here at JCU by planning and leading weekly faith sharing groups of about 8-10 students each. Applications are collected and leaders are selected at the end of each spring semester.

Immersion Student Coordinators (SCs) model the program’s pillars of community, spirituality, education, service, and social justice. They facilitate a semester-long preparation process and guide groups through 7-10 day experiences in their respective international or domestic locations. Applications are collected and SCs are selected at the beginning of each semester. Students must have participated in a JCU immersion prior to applying to lead.

Manresa Retreat Leaders: Manresa is JCU’s signature retreat program based on Ignatian spirituality. Manresa leaders contribute to the retreat experience by facilitating small groups, coordinating activities, leading prayer services, and giving talks on the themes of the retreat. Applications are collected and team leaders are selected at the beginning of each semester. Students must have attended the retreat prior to applying to lead.

Student-Led Clubs & Organizations

Becoming an officer of a student-led (keyword: led!) organization is another fantastic way to develop into an influential, ethical leader. And if there’s not a group that matches your interests, you can even take the lead to start your own.
