麻豆社

麻豆社 offers a number of graduate and athletic assistantship positions that help students develop teaching, research, and leadership skills while earning their degree and gaining practical experience.

How Assistantships Work

Assistantships are competitive awards that provide tuition coverage for up to 15 credit hours per year (fall and spring only; summer not included), plus a stipend. In exchange, assistants work 20 hours per week on campus doing research, teaching, or departmental work. While some of these positions are tied to the department that houses the student’s program of study, non-academic and athletic assistantships are also available.

Full-time employment outside of the assistantship position is not permitted. Assistantships last one year and are typically renewed for a second year based on satisfactory performance. Some programs may offer a third year. Position availability is contingent on funding.

Key Dates

The application process opens annually in early December and closes in early February.

How To Apply

To be considered for an assistantship, you must:
  • Be accepted into a graduate degree program
  • Maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Have expertise and experience that match the requirements of the position
Some programs, including non-degree/certificate, intensive one-year, and entirely online programs, are not eligible.

Each application requires:

  • An uploaded statement of purpose
  • A copy of your resume
  • Transcripts — These are automatically attached to your application if you submitted transcripts as part of your program admission application

You may apply to multiple positions with a single application. You must complete your graduate program application by February 15, including all transcripts, test scores, and required interviews, since assistantships are only for degree-seeking students.

After February 15, applications go to departments with openings. Most positions require interviews. Students receive updates about their application status online as decisions are made.

If you receive an assistantship offer, it must be approved by the Associate Academic Vice President. Once approved, you'll find the offer in and must sign and return the terms to finalize your appointment.

Applicants should present themselves in the most favorable light and approach the process in the same way as applying for a job. Before applying, you should:

  • Research the department's work and confirm you have the skills they need.
  • Review the job description carefully to match your qualifications with the position requirements.
  • Customize the application materials in a way that communicates why you are a good fit for the position—the contents of your application will determine whether or not you are invited for an interview.

Your statement of purpose and resume should answer the following questions:

  • How do your interests, values, and skills fit the department’s mission, values, and needs?
  • How does your experience fit the content knowledge required for the position?
  • What strengths would help you to succeed in this position?
  • How does this position fit with your professional goals and objectives?
