As a physics major at JCU, you will develop far more than technical skills and knowledge. Rooted in the Jesuit liberal arts tradition, our program also gives you the communication, collaboration, and ethical decision-making skills today’s employers demand.
Project-Based Learning
Studying physics is hands-on by nature. You’ll experiment and discover in modern lab facilities and embark on a senior design or research project.
Immersive Internships
Gain real-world experience with a local company or in a faculty lab. The Cleveland area is home to hundreds of innovative companies where you can put learning into practice.

Program Overview & Outcomes
At JCU, our majors can choose one of two physics degree options:
- Bachelor of Arts (BA) -ideal for students seeking a broad introduction to physics or those interested in combining physics with a second major.
- Bachelor of Science (BS) - ideal for students who want an in-depth study of the core areas of physics, including advanced courses, and who may plan to pursue graduate study in physics or a related field.
Whichever option you choose, you’ll learn from dedicated faculty members in small classes — and have access to plenty of hands-on experiences.
Curriculum: What You Will Learn
Whether you choose the BA or BS pathway, you’ll begin with two years of foundational courses, as well as complete a senior research or design project. You’ll round out your coursework with upper-level classes and electives of your choice.
