麻豆社

Instill a love of learning.

The middle school years are a pivotal time of change and growth. As a teacher in grades 4-9, you will teach, inspire, and guide students as they make the transition from adolescent to young adult.

Rooted in values of justice and advocacy, the Middle Childhood Education major at 麻豆社 will empower you to lead classrooms with compassion and sensitivity.

As you prepare for middle school teacher licensure in Ohio, you’ll develop content area specialization and gain plenty of real-world experience in Cleveland classrooms.

Learn By Doing

Spend your final year immersed in a school setting. First, you’ll observe classrooms through a practicum. In the spring, you’ll complete your student-teaching.

Prepare for Licensure

Our program meets the standards for Ohio teacher licensure. All JCU education majors are accredited by the Association for Advancing Quality in Teacher Preparation.

Get Involved on Campus

Make connections and participate in professional development as a member of Pi Lambda Theta, an international education honor society. You can also join the National Education Association.

Program Overview & Outcomes

As a future middle school teacher, you have the opportunity to specialize in a content area. Maybe you want to inspire a love of literature? Or perhaps you want to challenge students to solve problems by teaching math or science?

In addition to your core education courses, you’ll take classes in two content areas, including:

  • Language Arts
  • Mathematics
  • Science
  • Social Studies

You'll develop knowledge about teaching, learning, assessment and the profession through professional and pedagogical studies and disciplinary content courses. The program culminates in the professional year with student teaching experiences. Many of the University Core courses may fulfill program licensure requirements.

Where Our Alumni Go

Our education alumni teach in public and private schools in Ohio and around the country. Many advance into school and district leadership, and others use their teaching and curriculum development experience to serve community organizations.
