Management, leadership, and talent development skills span industries—so our program is flexible by design. Customize your coursework to align with your professional goals by choosing one of five distinct pathways:

    Study of the American legal environment within its social, political, economic, and ethical contexts. Topics include legal ethics, antitrust law, administrative law, labor law, product liability, the civil and criminal process, torts, business and the Constitutions, sources of law (political and institutional), consumer law, and law in international business. Prerequisite: Junior or Senior standing.

  • Leadership Development

    Egc: Culture And Change

    3 Credits

    IB3301

    Uses a historical and behavioral lens to analyze how culture can affect economic, social, political, and organizational change, and how these changes can affect different cultures. Major historical changes and their consequences in shaping culture are explored and related to contemporary societies. Prerequisites: EC 2201 or EC 201, EN 1250 or EN 125 or equivalent.

    Applied Consumer Insights

    3 Credits

    MK3302

    Provides coverage of consumer behavior theories, frameworks, concepts, and tools to understand consumers and uncover insights relevant for business and policy. Students learn to generate original consumer insights to create real-world marketing recommendations. Topics drawn from psychology, social psychology, sociology, cultural anthropology, and behavioral economics. Offered spring semester only; should be taken in junior year. Prerequisite: MK 301 or MK 3301.

    Sustainable Marketing Management

    3 Credits

    MK4495

    Capstone marketing course in which students work with outside organizations to learn value co-creation strategies with stakeholders as a means for managing and growing an organization. A normative framework for justice in marketing provides a holistic perspective for developing leadership skills as marketers. Offered spring semester only; should be taken in senior year. Prerequisites or corequisites: MK 302 or MK 3302 and MK 309 or MK 3309 and MK 402 or MK 4402.

    Supply Chain Logistics

    3 Credits

    SCM3328

    Analysis of business supply chain functions such as transportation, warehousing, inventory management, ordering, and customer satisfaction, with emphasis on interactions between these functions. Focus on problem solving with analytic tools. Prerequisite or corequisite: SCM 301 or SCM 3301 or permission of instructor.

    Problems In Supply Chain Management

    SCM4440

    The design and implementation of supply chains to maximize their effectiveness and efficiency. Focus on the analysis and design activities of the supply chain development process and introduction to system implementation and maintenance issues. Prerequisites: BI 200 or BI 2200 and SCM 328 or SCM 3328 and one of (SCM 330 or SCM 3330, SCM 350 or SCM 3350, or SCM 361 or SCM 3361.

    Professional Experience

    BPD4490

    An internship allows a student to engage in a meaningful professional experience related to his/her field of study. A minimum of 135 hours in a managed environment, in an office or location where the student directly reports to a supervisor, and is able to learn about business via interaction and delegated responsibility, is required. Prior to starting work, the student should seek pre-approval from the instructor. Other restrictions apply. Prerequisite: BPD 200 or BPD 2200; Instructor permission.

    Introduction to managing people and teams in organizations. Basic concepts in the behavioral sciences, behavioral principles of management, and applying this information to organizational life. Topics may include contributions of important theories, management functions, motivation, leadership, attitudes, group dynamics, global management behavior, and organizational change. Prerequisite: MHR 301 or MOL 3301 (may also be taken concurrently) or MHR 352.

    Leading And Mobilizing Teams

    An experiential, competency-based course designed to help students become more aware of a wide range of concepts such as creative problem-solving, leadership styles, followership, influence tactics and delivering presentations.

    Managing Talent Flow

    3 Credits

    MOL4470

    Study of issues and practices related to the acquisition of talent, including HR planning, job analysis, recruitment, selection strategies and practices using people analytics. Emphasis on designing and analyzing practices that maximize retention, utility, return on investment, and government regulation compliance. Prerequisite or corequisite: MHR 301 or MHR 3301 or PS 259 or PS 2590 or permission of Department Chair.

    Managing Career And Talent Development

    Study of the issues and practices related to employee training and career development. Topics include needs assessments, learning styles, training techniques, implementation and evaluation of training, as well as individual career management practices. As a project, students design and deliver a comprehensive training program. Prerequisite or corequisite: MHR 301 or MHR 3301 or PS 259 or PS 2590 or permission of Department Chair.

    Special Issues In People Management And Organizational Leadership

    Study special issues and advanced management and organizational leadership topics. Topics include employee well-being, diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, people analytics, employment law, organizational development, leadership, ethics, sustainability, and other trends in management and organizational leadership. Students research a topic of choice. Prerequisites or corequisites: MHR 376 or MOL 3376, MHR 453 or MOL 4453, MHR 470 or MOL 4470, Senior standing, or permission of Department Chair.

    Technology And People Analytics

    3 Credits

    MOL3343

    This course prepares the student to navigate the use of professional technologies and research methodology in management and organizational leadership. Students will learn to identify and compute commonly used people-oriented metrics and analyze data in Microsoft EXCEL. Students will gain analytical decision-making skills by answering practical questions based on an interpretation of the results. They will also be introduced to and become fluent in the language of digital technologies used in organizations. Ethical and legal considerations of using employee and applicant data to make business decisions will be discussed.

    Managing Performance, Pay, And Perks

    3 Credits

    MOL3376

    Study of issues and practices related to corporate reward practices and managing performance. Topics include job analysis, job evaluation, and performance management theory and techniques, incentive and fringe benefit systems, and the legal issues related to performance management and rewards. Prerequisite: MHR 301 or MHR 3301 or PS 259 or PS 2590 (may be taken as a prerequisite or corequisite), or permission of Department Chair.

    Managing Labor Relations: Past, Present, And Future

    3 Credits

    Study of issues and practices related to managing key employment relationships in both union and non-unionized environments. This includes labor law and public policy, workplace conflict resolution, performance management, collective bargaining, contract administration, perspectives on negotiation, and fair employment practices in a globalized world. Prerequisite or corequisite: MHR 301 or MOL 3301 or PS 259 or PS 2590 or permission of Department Chair.

    Sales And Consulting

    This course explores the fundamentals of sales and management consulting. We discuss the broad landscape and cover career opportunities. We also discuss the basics of client engagement, relationship management, contracting, and personal brand. Highly experiential and interactive, this culminates with a hands-on project that mirrors the work of business professionals in these industries.

    Project Management

    3 Credits

    MOL4483

    Study principles and methods helpful in planning and controlling a project, including developing a project plan, budgeting, resource planning, scheduling, and project monitoring and control. Study of selected computerized packages, including Microsoft Project, with examples of projects from manufacturing and service industries. Prerequisite or co-requisite: SCM 301 or SCM 3301.

    Leading Multicultural Organizations

    3 Credits

    This course will help students navigate diverse settings and improve their ability to work within and lead diverse teams and global organizations. This course examines both the impact of multicultural diversity on the individual employee’s work experience and on organizational processes/performance. Students will have the opportunity to develop their critical thinking on broad topics such as: (a) how social identities form and influence experiences, opportunities, and challenges, (b) equality, equity, and fairness, (c) bias, stereotyping, and discrimination, and (d) organizational diversity and inclusion management.
