The Master of Education in School Counseling at 麻豆社 will prepare you for professional licensure in Ohio — and for a purposeful career serving and empowering the next generation.

Pathway to Licensure

Our CACREP-accredited program meets the academic requirements for the Professional Pupil Services license specializing in school counseling through the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce.

Flexible Format and Schedule

Complete the program in as few as 2.5 years. Attend full- or part-time and take a combination of on-campus, online, and hybrid classes.

Immersive Fieldwork Experiences

Gain first-hand experience and build valuable skills in a school environment through three semesters of field placements.

Opportunities to Specialize

Choose a concentration that fits with your goals, such as Substance Use Disorder or Applied Behavior Analysis.

Program Overview & Outcomes

Informed by our Jesuit values, JCU’s school counseling program focuses on caring for the whole person. Guided by expert faculty, you’ll develop into an ethical, compassionate counseling professional.

Through a robust curriculum and rich hands-on experiences, our CACREP-accredited program will give you the skills and knowledge to:

  • Identify as a school counselor who is knowledgeable about the history and development of the profession, is aware of the challenges facing the profession, and prepare to advocate for the profession
  • Plan a developmentally appropriate school counseling program that supports school, social, and career development
  • Implement a system of ongoing program evaluation by establishing a framework for record-keeping and continuous feedback

Accreditation

Our M.Ed. in School Counseling is accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) and is recognized by the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce.

Admissions & Aid

To apply to the M.Ed. in School Counseling at JCU, you need:

  • An undergraduate degree in a recognized area from an accredited institution 
  • An undergraduate cumulative GPA of at least 3.0

The following documents are required for a complete application: 

  • Online application
  • Official transcripts from all colleges/universities attended
  • Resume/CV, which includes work and volunteer experience
  • Two letter(s) of recommendation 
  • Letter of intent - in 400-600 words, explain your career objectives and goals 

Additionally, candidates will participate in an interview, which may include:

  • Writing sample in response to a specific prompt
  • Individual or group interview

Applicants are admitted on a rolling basis. However, for best consideration, applications for specific terms should be received by these dates:

  • May 1 - for fall semester start
  • Feb. 1 - for summer semester start
  • Feb. 15 - for graduate assistant positions
