A master in education (M.Ed.) is an ideal next step for educators looking to advance in the field, gain an additional specialty, or pursue leadership roles in education or adjacent fields.
The advanced studies master’s program at 麻豆社 allows you to customize your M.Ed. degree to fit your professional interests. You’ll learn from expert professors, gain hands-on experience, and have the flexibility to complete the program on a timeline that works for you.
Flexible Format and Schedule
Complete the program in anywhere from two to five years. You can attend full- or part-time – whatever arrangement works best for your schedule. Some of our specializations offer evening and online classes.

The JCU Department of Education is accredited by the Association for Advancing Quality in Educator Preparation (AAQEP) and approved by the Ohio Department of Higher Education.

Pursue Your Passion
M.Ed. Specialization Options As part of the advanced studies master in education program, you can pursue one or more specializations to align with your professional goals. You can also choose a master of arts (M.A.) pathway, which includes a research component not required for the M.Ed.
Provides an overview of student development and an exploration of developmental issues and environmental obstacles that can interfere with optimum growth and development.
Focuses on learning theories, human development, research methods, assessment, and measurement that can be used in a variety of settings and fields. In addition to teachers, this specialization is also ideal for those from social science backgrounds who want to pursue a master’s degree, or those interested in doctoral programs in educational psychology or related fields.
Offers an in-depth preparation in literacy, reading assessment, and diagnosis of reading programs. This specialization can lead to recommendation for the State of Ohio Reading Endorsement.
Provides preparation for facilitating interventions, evaluating support systems, and planning appropriate follow-up services and continuing care for those experiencing substance use disorders.

To apply to the M.Ed. in Advanced Studies program at JCU, you need:
- an undergraduate degree in education (or equivalent) from an accredited institution
- an undergraduate cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale)
Most M.Ed. candidates are or have been licensed teachers.
The following documents are required for a complete application:
- Official transcripts from all colleges/universities attended
- Resume/CV, which includes work and volunteer experience
- Two letter(s) of recommendation
- Letter of intent - in 400-600 words, explain your career objectives and goals
- Personal interview with program faculty
- Verification of valid teaching certificate/license for specific specializations
Applicants are admitted on a rolling basis. However, for best consideration, applications for specific terms should be received by these dates:
- May 1 - for fall semester start
- Feb. 1 - for summer semester start
- Feb. 15 - for graduate assistant positions
